Qualified Maths teacher, examiner and former SEND numeracy TA
Member since August 2026
I am a fully qualified Maths teacher (QTS), Edexcel GCSE Maths Examiner and Second in Faculty at a successful secondary school. Over the past seven years, I have worked with students across the full range of abilities, from those who need to build confidence and secure a Grade 4 to high-attaining learners striving for Grades 7–9. Before becoming a teacher, I worked as a specialist SEND Numeracy Teaching Assistant, where I developed a strong understanding of how different students learn and how to adapt teaching to meet individual needs. This experience continues to shape my teaching today, enabling me to support learners with a wide range of abilities, including those with SEND, anxiety around maths and gaps in prior knowledge. Alongside classroom teaching, I have significant leadership responsibilities. As Second in Faculty, I help shape the mathematics curriculum, develop teaching resources, support colleagues and analyse student performance to improve outcomes. I have designed targeted intervention programmes and revision resources that have contributed to improved GCSE results and increased student confidence. As an Edexcel examiner, I have first-hand knowledge of how GCSE papers are marked and what examiners are looking for. I use this insight to teach students not only the mathematics they need to know but also the exam techniques that help them maximise their marks. My tutoring is always personalised. I begin by identifying each student’s strengths and areas for development before creating lessons that are engaging, structured and focused on measurable progress. Every session combines clear explanations, guided practice, independent problem solving and regular retrieval to ensure learning is retained over time. Whether supporting a student who has lost confidence or stretching someone aiming for the highest grades, my goal is always the same: to help every learner develop the skills, understanding and confidence they need to succeed in mathematics.

Having previously worked as a specialist SEND Numeracy Teaching Assistant before qualifying as a Maths teacher, I have extensive experience supporting students with a wide range of additional needs. I understand that every learner is unique, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to tutoring. Before tutoring begins, I take time to understand each student’s strengths, challenges, learning preferences and any existing support plans or diagnoses. This enables me to tailor lessons to suit their individual needs and create an environment where they feel comfortable, valued and confident to learn. My teaching approach focuses on breaking complex mathematical concepts into smaller, manageable steps, using clear explanations, visual representations and practical examples. I adapt the pace of lessons to ensure students fully understand each concept before moving on and regularly revisit previous learning through retrieval practice to strengthen long-term mem
