Everything you need to know about finding a tutor or teaching on our platform.
Questions about finding, booking, and working with a tutor.
We only accept qualified, experienced teachers. Every tutor on our platform holds a recognised teaching qualification (such as QTS, PGCE, BEd, or CELTA) and has real classroom experience. Unlike other platforms that accept anyone, your child will always be learning from a trained professional.
Use the search on our homepage to filter by subject, level (Key Stage, 11 Plus, GCSE, A-Level), and tuition type (online or face-to-face). If you need face-to-face sessions, enter your postcode and we'll show you tutors nearby. You can read verified reviews, check qualifications, and compare session rates before booking.
Each tutor sets their own per-session rate, which is clearly displayed on their profile. Rates typically range from £25 to £75 per hour depending on the subject, level, and the tutor's experience. There are no hidden fees — the price you see is the price you pay.
Every session is a full one-hour lesson with the tutor. If you'd like a longer session (for example, an intensive exam revision), book two consecutive slots back-to-back — the tutor will run them as one extended session.
Once you've found a tutor you like, view their available time slots and pick one that works for you. Select the subject, level, and session type, then pay securely through our Stripe-powered checkout. The tutor is notified immediately and your session is confirmed.
Absolutely. There's no commitment or subscription — you book one session at a time. If you're happy with the tutor, you can continue booking. If not, you're free to try someone else.
Online sessions use our built-in video calling platform — there's nothing to download or install. When your session is due, both you and the tutor click 'Join Video Call' from the dashboard. The platform includes screen sharing for working through problems together.
Cancellations made more than 24 hours before a session are eligible for a full refund. Late cancellations (less than 24 hours) may not be refundable, as the tutor has reserved that time for you. You can cancel from your dashboard.
Every tutor's DBS check status is clearly displayed on their profile. All tutor profiles are reviewed and verified by our team before they appear on the platform. We only accept qualified teachers with real classroom experience. For more information, see our Safeguarding page.
Yes. You can send a message to any tutor from their profile page to ask questions or discuss your child's needs before committing to a booking.
All payments are processed securely through Stripe. You pay at the time of booking using a debit or credit card. There's no need to handle cash or arrange bank transfers. You can view your full payment history in your dashboard.
Yes — after each completed session, you can leave a star rating and written review. Reviews are only available to parents who have actually had a session, so all feedback on our platform is genuine and verified.
Yes! Many of our teachers offer small group sessions. You can share a session with friends, classmates, or siblings and pay separately for your own spot. For example, a tutor charging £40 per hour might charge £80 total for a group of 3 students — just £26.67 each (a 33% saving versus 1-to-1). Look for the 'Group Sessions' badge on tutor profiles — open group slots appear directly on the profile, ready to book.
Each additional student adds 50% of the tutor's session rate to the total cost. This reflects the tutor teaching more people at once, while each student still saves money compared to 1-to-1 tuition. Example with a tutor charging £40 per hour: • 1 student: £40 (full rate) • 2 students: £60 total — £30 each (25% saving) • 3 students: £80 total — £26.67 each (33% saving) • 4 students: £100 total — £25 each (37% saving) The per-student price is locked when the tutor creates the group session — each parent pays their share independently through our platform.
Tutors who offer group sessions create them with a date, time, and maximum group size. Open group slots show up directly on the tutor's profile alongside their 1-to-1 availability. You join by clicking 'Join group' — you'll pay your per-student share through our normal Stripe checkout, and your spot is held immediately. Tutors can also create private invite-only groups for friends, siblings, or specific students.
Questions about joining, payments, and teaching on the platform.
We only accept qualified, experienced teachers. You must hold a recognised teaching qualification such as QTS, PGCE, BEd, CELTA, or equivalent, and have real classroom teaching experience. We do not accept students, graduates without teaching qualifications, or hobbyist tutors.
Sign up and complete your tutor profile, including your qualifications, teaching experience, DBS check status, subjects, and levels. Your profile is then reviewed by our team. Once approved, you'll appear in search results and parents can start booking sessions with you. We'll email you when your profile is approved.
We charge a 20% platform fee on each session. This covers payment processing, the video calling platform, marketing, platform maintenance, and customer support. For example, on a £40 session, you receive £32. You can see the full breakdown in your dashboard. The commission rate is clearly stated before you sign up.
Payments are handled through Stripe Connect. You'll set up a Stripe account (takes a few minutes) and your earnings are transferred directly to your bank account. Stripe typically processes payouts within 2-3 working days. You can track all your earnings from your dashboard.
Yes. You set the rate you charge for one hour-long lesson (the standard length on the platform) when you create your profile, and you can change it any time from your dashboard. The platform sets a minimum to prevent a race to the bottom; you can charge as much above that as you like.
Use the availability calendar in your dashboard to set recurring weekly time slots (e.g. every Monday at 4pm) or one-off sessions. Parents can only book slots you've made available, so you're always in control of your schedule.
Yes. You can choose to offer online sessions, face-to-face sessions, or both. If you offer face-to-face, you'll set your location and travel radius so parents nearby can find you.
Yes. Every tutor must submit a DBS certificate and have it verified before their profile can go live — you upload a copy and our team sights it, then records the outcome. The verified level is shown on your profile. We require an Enhanced check (with barred list) for working with under-18s.
If a parent cancels more than 24 hours before the session, they receive a full refund and you won't be charged. If they cancel with less than 24 hours' notice, the cancellation policy may still result in you receiving payment for the reserved time, depending on the circumstances.
For online sessions, both you and the student click 'Join Video Call' from the dashboard when the session is due. The video platform includes screen sharing, which is great for working through problems together. There's nothing to install — it works directly in the browser.
No. Tutors on our platform are independent, self-employed service providers. We are a marketplace that connects you with families — we do not employ you. You are responsible for your own tax obligations, including self-assessment and VAT if applicable.
Yes. You can enable group sessions in your profile settings and set your maximum group size (typically 2-6 students). Group sessions are designed to reward you for teaching multiple students at once — you earn more per session while still offering savings to each family.
Each additional student adds 50% of your session rate to the total. So if your standard 1-to-1 session is £40: • 1 student: £40 total • 2 students: £60 total (+50%) • 3 students: £80 total (+100%, you earn double) • 4 students: £100 total (+150%) This reflects the extra work of teaching multiple students at once. You take home the same percentage after the platform commission as you would for 1-to-1 sessions. The per-student price is locked when you create the group session — you commit to that price even if the group doesn't fill, so set the maximum group size at a level you're comfortable with.
Questions about the platform, coverage, and data.
For parents and students, there are no platform fees — you simply pay the tutor's session rate at the time of booking. For tutors, we charge a 20% commission on each session to cover platform costs.
