Why GCSE English Language matters

Unlike Literature, GCSE English Language has no texts to revise — it's assessed entirely on unseen extracts and on your child's own writing. That makes it a skills exam: reading unfamiliar fiction and non-fiction closely, analysing how writers create effect, and producing clear, well-crafted writing to time. A grade 4 (and increasingly a 5) is required by virtually every college, sixth form and employer.

GCSE English Language Tutors: common questions
There are no set texts — so what is there to tutor?
Technique. The reading questions reward a specific analytical method, and the writing is marked on craft you can absolutely improve with feedback. A tutor teaches the approach and gives the targeted, marked practice a class of thirty rarely allows.
Which exam boards do your tutors cover?
AQA, Edexcel (Pearson), OCR and WJEC/Eduqas. The skills are similar but the paper structure and question wording differ, so we match your child to a tutor who teaches their board.
My child can write but loses marks — why?
Usually timing and structure rather than ideas. Many able students run out of time or don't shape their answers to what the mark scheme rewards. That's very fixable with a tutor's feedback.
How many sessions will my child need?
A weekly hour through Year 11 works well, stepping up before mocks and the summer exams. Targeted help on one weak paper can move a grade in a few focused sessions.
How much does a tutor cost?
