About

My name is Mark and I have taught History in UK schools for 17 years with many as a Head of Department and examiner. I have experience at A-Level and GCSE and am familiar with the exam requirements of Edexcel, AQA, and OCR. My sessions focus on breaking the key themes of the study into easily understandable concepts. This allows the student to understand the big picture. Once this understanding is developed then I work with students on consolidating their content recall through science based methods incorporating engaging active learning techniques combined with a variety of low stakes testing. With this in place we focus upon applying the content successfully to the exam requirements practicing exam questions and developing strategies for each paper focusing on the specific requirements of the mark scheme and the time that should be spent on each question. My sessions ae designed to take into account the student's individual learning style and to build the student's confidence allowing them to realise their potential. I pride myself on taking a holistic view of education also focusing on coaching students to deal with the anxiety and stress that exams can present.

All of my sessions are adapted to the individual needs of the student. I pre teach key vocab, coach active content learning strategies, and break extended writing down into step by step patterns which help students to manage their own learning processes. I also coach students on how to minimise exam anxiety, helping them to perform to the best of their ability under pressure.
