Experienced Spanish, French, English (EAL) teacher
Member since September 2026
Teaching French, Spanish, Italian and English has been my passion for over 20 years. After heading up Modern Languages Departments, working in leading schools, I now tutor children and adults online and in-person. I am a highly qualified (Cert TEFLA, PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages) and experienced teacher of French and Spanish to A-Level and Oxbridge, Italian for beginners and English (EAL) to students of all ages, from 3 to age 91! I am an expert in exam preparation, from GCSE through A Level or IB to Oxbridge entrance and am very familiar with a range of popular courses taught in UK schools and adult learning, such as DELF and DELE; I am also a speaking examiner for Pearson Edexcel and AQA. So, whatever age or stage you are at with your languages, if you would like to learn in a way that is tailored to your individual needs and preferences, then I can help you. My approach is to interest and motivate you through fun activities with cultural references, as I’m fascinated by the history and culture of French and Spanish-speaking countries; so there are likely to be snippets of film, music, literature together with food and travel recommendations along the way. To enable you to communicate in real-life situations. I use a combination of traditional and contemporary methodologies to ensure you gain a solid grasp of key grammatical structures and functional phrases. We do this by employing a variety of resources, ranging from powerpoints, worksheets, games and digital apps to develop your skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing. If this sounds like what you are looking for, I look forward to hearing from you!

Teaching a language is all starting small and building to something wonderful. If you add language gradually, working within a theme, you can scaffold carefully to ensure that the student can progress one step at a time and you can go back a step at any time to revisit a concept in another way. Modelling is a key starting point, followed by repetition of new words and structures until a student is ready to move on and create their own language, using structured support. As language teaching involves the skills of listening, reading, speaking and writing, students have four different ways of building their knowledge and understanding, starting with receptive skills before moving to productive skills. We also have a wide variety of resources at our disposal so that learning is supported aurally and visually, with gestures and visual clues, by touch with realia and also kinetically as language learning encompasses many games. Using a combination of these resources, tailored to the individ
