With over two years of experience as a tutor, working with multiple tutoring companies, I have developed a strong understanding of how to support students with different learning styles, abilities, and academic needs. Before becoming a tutor, I worked as a nurse, which has given me valuable skills that I bring into my teaching. My nursing background taught me how to communicate clearly, be patient and empathetic, adapt to different individuals, and explain complex information in a simple and approachable way. These skills have translated naturally into my tutoring practice. As a tutor, I aim to create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. I take the time to understand each student’s strengths, challenges, and goals, then adapt my teaching approach accordingly. Rather than simply giving students the answers, I focus on helping them build confidence, develop independent learning skills, and truly understand the subject. What makes me a great tutor is my combination of professional experience, patience, communication skills, and genuine commitment to helping students succeed. I understand that every learner is different, and I enjoy finding creative ways to make lessons engaging, accessible, and rewarding. My goal is not only to improve a student’s academic performance, but also to help them become more confident and motivated learners.

When planning lessons for students with dyslexia, ADHD or mental-health difficulties, I believe it is important to take an individualised and flexible approach. I would first get to know the student, identify their strengths and areas of difficulty, and establish realistic goals based on their individual needs. For a student with dyslexia, I would break information into manageable sections and use a combination of visual, verbal and written resources. I would avoid overwhelming them with large amounts of text and allow additional processing time where appropriate. For a student with ADHD, I would plan shorter, varied activities, use clear instructions and visual structure, and incorporate appropriate movement or short breaks. I would also use positive reinforcement to help maintain motivation and confidence. For students experiencing mental-health difficulties, I would create a calm and supportive learning environment.
