Why A-Level English Literature matters
Reading with depth — wider texts, comparison and independent coursework
A-Level English Literature asks students to read widely and critically across poetry, prose and drama, to compare texts, and to bring in critical interpretations and context. Alongside the exams there's a comparative coursework essay (NEA). It's a rigorous, respected qualification and strong preparation for humanities and law degrees.
The demand is depth and independence — sustained argument, engagement with different readings, and confident comparison. A specialist tutor helps students read more analytically, structure comparative and single-text essays, and shape a coursework piece that plays to their strengths.
Every tutor on Teachers Delivered is a qualified teacher who has taught the current specification.

A-Level English Literature Tutors: common questions
How is it different from GCSE?
Wider reading, genuine comparison, and engagement with critical viewpoints — plus independent coursework. Personal response has to become sustained, evidenced argument, which is what a tutor helps develop.
Can a tutor help with the coursework (NEA)?
Yes — with text choice, focus, structure and feedback, within the board's rules. The essay remains your child's own work.
Which exam boards do your tutors cover?
AQA (A and B), Edexcel (Pearson), OCR and WJEC/Eduqas — matched to your child's texts and board.
How many sessions will my child need?
A weekly hour is typical, with extra help around the coursework deadline and before exams.
How much does a tutor cost?
A flat price per hour-long lesson (platform minimum £40), shown on each profile. Pay securely by card.
Are your tutors qualified teachers?
Yes — qualified, experienced teachers with a verified Enhanced DBS.
