Why GCSE Biology matters
GCSE Biology is content-heavy: students cover everything from cells and enzymes to the human body, genetics and whole ecosystems, and the exams reward precise recall of definitions and processes alongside the ability to apply them to unfamiliar situations. It's taken either as a separate science (Triple/Separate award) or as part of Combined Science.
The commonest stumbling blocks are the sheer volume to remember, the required practicals, and the "6-mark" extended questions. A specialist tutor helps by turning memorisation into understanding, drilling exam technique for the longer questions, and making sure the maths-in-science skills (graphs, percentages, magnification) don't quietly lose marks.
Every science tutor on Teachers Delivered is a qualified teacher who has taught the current specification.
Cell structure, transport, division and stem cells — the foundation of the course.
Enzymes, the digestive, circulatory and respiratory systems, and plant transport.
Pathogens, the immune system, vaccination and drug development.
Photosynthesis and respiration — reliably examined and reliably misunderstood.
The nervous and hormonal systems, blood glucose control and the kidneys.
Genetics, evolution, classification and ecosystems, with the maths that goes with them.
Our GCSE Biology tutors are being vetted right now — new teachers join every week.
Browse all subjectsTriple (Separate) Science gives a full GCSE in each of Biology, Chemistry and Physics; Combined Science gives two GCSEs covering all three in slightly less depth. A tutor can support either — just tell us which your child is taking.
Higher targets grades 4–9, Foundation grades 1–5. It depends on target grade and confidence with the maths content; a tutor can advise after a short assessment.
AQA, Edexcel (Pearson), OCR (Gateway and 21st Century) and WJEC/Eduqas. Content is similar but emphasis and practicals differ, so we match your child's board.
A weekly hour through Year 11 works well, with more before mocks and the summer exams.
