AQA GCSE Physics (8463). Two papers at Foundation or Higher tier, each 1 hour 45 minutes and half the GCSE.
Foundation (grades 1 to 5) and Higher (grades 4 to 9) papers have the same structure.

What to know about AQA
- Questions mix multiple choice, structured, short-answer and open response.
- Questions draw on the required practicals and are worth at least 15% of the marks.
- Paper 2 can also draw on energy and electricity from Paper 1's topics.
- At Higher tier, a student just below grade 4 can be awarded an allowed grade 3.

Does it matter that it's AQA?
Yes, for practice: each board splits the topics between the papers in its own way, so revise with AQA's topic order and past papers. Every tutor on this page lists AQA for GCSE Physics.
Should my child sit Foundation or Higher?
Foundation covers grades 1 to 5 and Higher grades 4 to 9. Higher suits students aiming above a 5; Foundation suits a secure 4 or 5. A tutor can usually recommend a tier after a lesson or two.
